佛国圣境——五台山

   五台山历史悠久，是中国佛教著名的活动场所，位列“四大名山”之首。最早称为五峰山，是指崇山峻岭中突兀拔起的五座主峰。宗教活动在山内盛行以后，发现“五峰耸出，顶无林木，有如垒土之台”，故改称为五台山。另外，它还有清凉山、紫府山、圆光山、白云山、雁门山、灵鹫山、五顶山、五龙山等别名。或据史实，或依经籍，或源传说，无不情趣盎然.

   Mt. Wutai or Five Terrace Mountain is one of Buddhism’s Four Sacred Mountains, was the first of the four mountains to be identified. Originally, it was named “Mt. Wufeng” or Five Peaks Mountain, which refers to the flat tops of the five principal peaks. The current name was given when the mountain became the important Buddhist centre. Interestingly, the mountain has more alternate names, such as “Clear Cool Mt.”, “Five Dragon Mt”, etc.
