淮阳古城——扬州

    扬州，地处江苏省中部，长江下游北岸，是上海经济圈和南京都市圈的节点城市。纵贯南北的京杭大运河与万里长江在这里交汇，历来便是水陆交通枢纽，南北漕运的咽喉，素有“苏北门户”之称。扬州的建城史可追溯至公元前486年，古称“广陵”，亦称“江都”。历史上的扬州城曾富甲天下，盛极一时。扬州不仅经济发达，交通便利，且风景秀丽，现存瘦西湖、大明寺、个园、何园等著名旅游景点。无数文人墨客千百年来不厌其烦地赞美扬州，留下众多千古绝句，生动而真实地反映了扬州这个大都会的繁华胜景。
      Situated on the northern bank of Yangtze River, Yangzhou is located in the middle of Jiangsu Province. The Grand Canal flows through the Yangzhou jurisdiction from north to south and merges into the Yangtze River at the southern boundary of Yangzhou. With the canal now partially restored, Yangzhou is once again an important transportation and market center.  The city began to be built in 486 B.C. In the past, Yangzhou was named Guangling and Jiangdu. The city entices numerous visitors with its tourist attractions including Slender West Lake, Daming Temple, Ge Garden and He Garden, etc. Yangzhou has been the ideal place to be frequently visited by men of letters and scholars since ancient times.
